If there's one thing you know to the pit of your being when you are a farmer, it's that you cannot control the weather. The weather does what it does, and personally, I think you may as well accept it and make the best of it as to grumble and be disappointed. I've used my time cleaning all the closets in the house this month, tackling sewing projects, helping in Eric's classroom at school, and doing fun things with the kids.
We started March off by celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday with a birthday dinner for the great doctor with a meal of green eggs and ham, and Cat in the Hat dessert.
Craig built us a chicken coop this month too. I had bought the plans last year, but things got so busy that there wasn't time for building a chicken coop or getting chickens. The plan this year was to get it built before the weather got nice and before it was time to get chickens. Eric was escatic to start this project and we nicknamed him "The Foreman". He loved reading the building plans and making sure Daddy was doing it right. Eliza was a good helper too - holding boards to be cut, getting the right screws, and holding things tight to be put together. We started the coop on the only nice weekend we had all month, and finished it on the other weekends that were cold and snowy. I laughed as they picked it up with the pallet fork on the tractor, then shoveled out a place in the snow to set it down! But this year we are ready for baby chicks as soon as it warms up some!
